What is exigent circumstances?

Exigent circumstances refer to situations where there is immediate need for action or assistance that cannot be delayed or postponed. These circumstances can include emergencies such as fires, natural disasters, accidents, or medical emergencies. In law enforcement, exigent circumstances can be used as justification for warrantless searches or seizures when there is probable cause for the action and the situation requires immediate action to prevent harm or loss of evidence. Examples may include situations where evidence is in plain view or the suspect is in immediate danger of escape. However, exigent circumstances must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and the use of warrantless searches or seizures must still be constitutionally reasonable.
